About This Project

Family Practice (2021) is a screen-recorded film that unpacks my given name to trace and intertwine my ancestral and artistic lineages. Honouring my dad’s dedication to documenting our family history, the film makes use of our digitized family archives as catalysts for sharing stories of becoming, a process and performance that contributes to my family’s archive in real time. Investigating the duality of my experience as a second-generation child of immigrants, I sit in the complexity of both cultural loss and reconnection. Family Practice is dedicated to my parents, Chris and Maria, and my QTBIPOC dance community in so-called Vancouver.
